Lenbachhaus Kandinsky and beyond

Lenbachhaus Kandinsky and beyond

Lenbachhaus. Kandinsky and beyond.

By the time of my first visit, which happened only in 2019, I had some idea of where and why I was going. By that time, I had a lot of photographs of Kandinsky's works from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yerevan and even Milan and Bergamo in my collection.

Still, the legendary place turned out to be two orders of magnitude more impressive than I expected. I got a fantastic pleasure from the huge number of bonuses that the museum literally overwhelmed me with.

To begin with, the collection of paintings by Wassily Kandinsky is amazing in the volume and quality of the material. Everything is not in good condition, but in perfect condition. With very decent and thoughtful lighting. Not without flaws. But these are already such subtleties, about which it would be on the verge of decency to speak in detail here.

The second thing that attracts attention is that all other works (not by Kandinsky) are exceptionally interesting and good. The collection is amazing. I did not know many authors before and I am grateful to the museum for the acquaintance.

And the third aspect was just a personal luck. In the exhibition space, located next to the entrance to the metro, there was a large exhibition of Verevkina and Yavlensky. And if I had some idea about Yavlensky before that, then Marianna Veryovkina became news to me. I was very impressed with her work. I once made a post on this topic and then posted everything that I managed to capture. The light at the exhibition was very so-so, but this did not darken the mood in the slightest.

There is a lot of information on the net about Lebachhaus, Kandinsky, Verevkina and Yavlensky. Lectures, books, articles. I have no desire to retell any of this. My lyrics are about personal impressions and memories of the event. And each visit to such a legendary place is certainly an event - interesting, joyful, significant.

And in conclusion, I will say one thing - you can hang out there for the whole day. And come back after a while again. Just, by the way, as in the Pinakothek, about which there was a previous post. With our approach, it’s definitely not possible to manage in a “couple of hours”.
