Antonio Balestra 1666-1740 The Death of Abel

Castelvecchio museum Verona is a beautiful museum with a decent and thoughtful overall light. I have already written about him previously in detail and complimentary. However, they missed the mark here. So much so that it catches the eye and makes it difficult to perceive the work. Why purposefully and rather harshly highlight bright spots in a contrasting picture? It is very strange. The same light was at the traveling exhibition of Caravaggio in 2017 in Milan. Obvious insanity. I also smoothed out the “effect” of the spotlight with a filter. It is especially surprising to see such tricks in quality places. You will spoil the porridge with butter. Easy. I would like to see people making and implementing such decisions at least once in my life. I have questions for them that would be best asked right in front of the canvas. I wonder who they are anyway? Guardians? Art critics? Electricians? Guards? Plumbers? Or who?

For me, this set of questions sounds like a refrain when visiting any museum. And the worse the lighting in the museum, the more often and louder it sounds.

And the picture itself is very solid and memorable - an eternal theme, precise composition, good condition.
